SharePoint and Videos

I was asked earlier this week if I knew of any SharePoint Web Parts for Media Player. After looking around and asking a few other SharePoint people I have come up with a short but quick list of ways to integrated video with SharePoint.

1) Media Player Web Part - http://www.sharepointblogs.com/ajp/archive/2007/07/18/media-player.aspx. I have not used this yet but it is a Web Part that with an embedded instance of Media Player.

2) Microsoft Interactive Media Manager - http://www.codeplex.com/IMM. IMM appears to be a solution to create a media platform off of. It does not appear to be available to the general public. TeleStream appears to have created a solution off the platform.

3) Silverlight Media Player and SharePoint - http://devcow.com/blogs/jdattis/archive/2008/01/14/silverlight-media-player-and-sharepoint.aspx by Dan Attis (MVP). Dan has small slide deck as well as a full Visual Studio solution (with deployment cmds) that integrates a Silverlight Media Player inside a Web Part.

I have installed and played with Dan's Silverlight Media Player Web Part and I think if you are looking for embedded video in SharePoint you should consider downloading the code. Overall Dan's project was simple to build and deploy and the embedded player looks good.

If you know of any other Web Parts or solutions to display video in SharePoint feel free to drop me some mail.
