Finally got around to creating my new basic Dev virtual machine. Right now I am doing most of my development using a single Virtual PC machine running Windows Server 2008, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Office 2007 and Visual Studio 2008. I stuck with SQL Server 2005, SP2.
So far I have not run into any major issues and it appears that all my development utilities run as expected.
